Any speech is always an opinion...it may be completely true, partially true or not the truth at all. Government should never be determining what is truth or not since it knows nothing but lying.
government has often enabled me to know what is true. When I wasn't sure about something, I'd see what gov't had to say about it. Knowing that if the gov't said "a" that the truth was "not a" has often been useful.
Israel has just asked that the US federal government crack down on what they consider "hate speech" on American social platforms, deplatforming whoever is deemed to have written hate speech, and big fines for the platforms if they do not comply. Israel says the free speech amendment does not apply to social media platforms. So now we have an even bigger problem right here in the US. IMO.

This is the concern I have. I am in total support of absolute free speech but I fear is the Trump agenda actually just about allowing speech for views they approve of but no speech for views they disapprove of? In which case it's not really free speech at all, is it?
That said the Online Safety Act is a truly evil law, if somehow they end up pressuring the UK to repeal it then that will be some sort of temporary victory for British citizens. Though as they say the price of freedom is eternal vigilance...

People only have actual freedom of speech when they own the website. So people who squawk about being censored on anybody else's website - Facebook, X, Youtube, or someone's sister's website dedicated to cooking eggplants or taking care of bunnies, do not really understand how free speech applies.. All up to the owner, and an owner will, IMO, take into consideration personal beliefs and how other posters on their website will react, as in will they quit, which may lessen revenue from advertising or membership fees. The free and fair debate demand is not valid, also the concept is getting diluted by the proliferation of bots.
